The cuttlefish is a cephalopod mollusk; it has an elongated body surrounded by two undulating fins that almost join at the tip, aiding the animal’s movement. The rest of the body consists of two large eyes and eight small tentacles that hide other, longer ones in the center that catch prey.

What makes the Mediterranean cuttlefish special?

Among the many varieties of cuttlefish that exist, the one common in the Mediterranean Sea is Sepia officinalis. A mollusk of the cephalopod family that is characterized by an inner rather than outer shell.
